My nature has always been a general distrust of rules. We live in a changing world and rules often don't take into account all the available information. This is also why I love science - the constant pursuit of information.
I've had the pleasure of being included in a ridiculous number of HIPPA conversations over the past 8 years and over the past 3 years I've been included in more CJIS conversations than most of my friends who are lawyers.
Compliance is important. In fact, it's critical to protecting those who often cannot protect themselves. But progress is also important.
Today technology is moving much faster than compliance. Too often compliance requirements fail to take into account some of the available information much less all.
Here's a great quote, "The apparent conflict between federal criminal justice requirements and the nature of cloud computing could deny many agencies the benefits of a cost-saving technology..."
"The nature of cloud computing" might as well be "the nature of modern technology" or "the nature of the earth rotating around the sun."
Cloud computing is modern computing - more secure, more reliable, more valuable.
The conflict is a manufactured by outdated bureaucracy.
